Western medicine has only recently begun to recognize and acknowledge some "alternative" forms of healing as legitimate. Chiropractic, acupuncture, herbal remedies, therapeutic music, and sound therapy are some of those. Acupuncture or meditative recordings are now used in some hospitals to provide pain relief during surgery. Reflexology and Reiki are used to help patients access deep rest, and live therapeutic music is used bedside to reduce stress and promote healing. An example of a main-stream doctor using alternative tools is Dr. Mitchell Gaynor, who uses sound, voice, and music to help his patients recover from life-threatening illnesses like cancer.
I was a student of sound healing before I realized it. Even practicing saxophone at home in my teens, I loved the process of holding just one note for a long time, allowing the sound to embrace me in vibration. This was more than just a saxophone student's "long tone" practice. I was intuitively resonating with sound itself. Later in life, as I learned from the work of sound healers like Don Campbell, Jonathan Goldman, Steven Halpern, and others, I found myself on a path to expand my understanding of sound as a healing force. I have taken Sound, Healing and Consciousness with Zacciah Blackburn, deepening my understanding of the healing potential of sound. I am also a National Board Certified therapeutic musician, playing bedside at long-term care facilities.
In addition to my therapeutic music work, I have created sounds for recuperating sea turtles, and helped young and old access their own healing potential through workshops that teach toning, drumming, and vocalizing as therapeutic tools. The incredible nature of sound to be felt physically, emotionally, and energetically makes it, for me, the perfect holistic healing tool. It can be a challenge for us to recognize that something as unassuming as sound can have a powerful impact on our health, but it can!
There are many ways to experience sound in a therapeutic way, including sound baths, toning, tuning forks, Tibetan or crystal bowls, gong, drum, voice, and acoustic wind instruments. I use these different sound tools, and find that each of these modalities and instruments have their own unique vibrational signatures, creating overtones with incredible healing potential. Combined with clear intention, these healing vibrations create for the recipient a personal yet universal connection.

Intention Breath Vibration
When we use intention and breath to create vibration,
we access the deep healing potential of sound and music.
